The Allan Labor Government has begun upgrading Dromana Pier, an iconic Mornington Peninsula attraction for fishing, walking, boating and swimming.
Ports and Freight Minister Melissa Horne today announced the start of work on the popular coastal destination, as part of the Labor Government's $46 million investment to deliver key upgrades to piers and jetties across the state.
There will be improved access to the water for swimming through new stairs as well as a solid timber decking and patio area to provide the opportunity to view the Dromana foreshore, Port Phillip Bay and Arthurs Seat.
The community-led design retained the lower landing and extended a ramp to provide accessible access to the water.
Community consultation informed the design of the new upgrades and will serve the local community for many years to come, opening in time for summer next year.
While this project is underway, the neighboring George Bishop Reserve car park will be closed. Parking is available at Dromana Foreshore Reserve or along Point Nepean Road.
The coastal and beach area adjacent to the construction site will be fenced off to allow equipment and materials to be moved safely between the site and the construction site during work.
