Wisconsin landscaping company owner sends snow removal crews to Tennessee

BUTLER, Wis. – As a severe winter storm shuts down parts of the South, local business owners in Wisconsin are sending helpers.

Myron Dorshak of Dorshak Tree Specialists and Snow Services is sending multiple teams to Tennessee to help. The trip also brings good business, even though the winter saw less snow in southeastern Wisconsin.

“We might get an inch or two or a lot of dust. I remember years ago we had a lot of snow. There was about half a meter of snow for plowing or sledding. “Now there’s just not much left to plow,” Dorshak said.

Dorshak said the lack of snow was “challenging.”

That's why, ironically, his snow removal crews are hitting the road, leaving Wisconsin – where winter weather is normal – and heading south to Tennessee, where it's snowing.

Dorshak told TMJ4's Ryan Jenkins that he received the call for help earlier this week.

“They know there's a big storm coming in Tennessee and we need help out there,” Dorshak said. “There are no plowing crews in Tennessee.”

He tells TMJ4 News his company is one of at least five local businesses using Teams. Dorshak sent 10 trucks and 15 employees to help with snow and ice removal jobs at malls and big box stores.

That's good news, as Storm Team 4 chief meteorologist Brian Niznansky reports that southeastern Wisconsin has seen about half the snowfall it would normally see so far this season. With 9 inches of snowfall, we are about 20 inches behind the season pace.

That's a continued trend after last season, when Niznansky said we saw a total of 32.6 inches – 16 inches below average.

“The good thing is that they make really good money. It’s nice that they get this opportunity,” Dorshak said. “Especially if we don’t get the snow we’d like here in Wisconsin.”
