Dutch company Wattlab has completed the first full installation of its solar power system on a diesel-electric marine vessel.
It has been installed 44 solar power systems with a total capacity of 79 kWp on Vertom's new 7.280 dwt cargo ship, Vertom TulaWattlab said in an emailed statement Thursday.
The solar flatracks system can cover approx 20% of the ship's energy requirements for lighting and other on-board systems.
Wattlab says the panels can be quickly installed or removed when needed for freight work.
“During the pilot testing, test results showed that the solar flatrack system performs well in the harsh coastal shipping environment.” Thomas van MeerkerkBusiness Development Manager at Vertom said.
