The Province of Ontario, through the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO), has completed a “Site Selection, Preliminary Design and Grade Environmental Assessment (EA) Study” for a Highway Maintenance Patrol Yard (MPY).
An MPY is a facility that houses personnel, equipment, and materials used in highway maintenance.
The purpose of the study was to evaluate options for improving or relocating the existing Kanata MPY serving Highways 7, 416 and 417.
The completed study recommends a hybrid two-MPY approach that includes:
- Redevelopment of the existing Kanata MPY within its existing property boundaries; And
- Construction of a “Limited Use Supporting MPY” on MTO-owned land called Palladium West. This location is located near the highway north of the Connections community in Stittsville. This MPY would include office space, storage and occasional maintenance of MPY vehicles.

What's next?
The Transportation Environmental Study Report (TESR) is now available for public comment on the Reports page on the project website January 15, 2026.
The TESR documents the EA study, including completed consultation, assessment of alternatives, preliminary design, expected impacts, remedial actions and commitments for future work.
If there are no outstanding comments after the comment period, the project will be considered to meet Class EA requirements and may proceed to the detailed design phase.
