Strausalz plays a crucial role in the reaction to the winter weather in Arkansas, but its application can have a negative impact on the environment, water supply and infrastructure, researchers have found out.
The constant use of road salt can lead to freshwater salzage syndrome. Among other things, this can damage water creatures and impair water quality. Strousalz can also lead to the deterioration of streets and other infrastructure.
Due to the strong snowfall in the whole state, the use of road salt has increased significantly. While Arkansas does not deal with the winter weather as much as other states in which the salvation of fresh water is endemic, according to Shannon Speir, assistant professor of water quality at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteeville, there is a need for more environmentally friendly alternatives.
