Roswell, GA. – Those who enjoy Roswell Area Park should know something about a improvement project that the city begins there.

As part of the city's capital improvement program, the 3.1 million dollar project is to solve many years of problems with the pond, such as the failed embankment and aging infrastructure.

The entire path around the park will be closed next week so that the contractor can start the necessary erosion control for the drainage of ponds and the installation of building prevention in the parking lot.

The work on the pond includes the exchange of old pipes and damaged retaining walls. The pond is also dredged to increase the rainwater bearing capacity and improve its health, while local landscape design is restored to support the local wild animals.

“This project is part of our broader vision to ensure that Roswell's parks and natural spaces continue to serve our residents with beauty, security and sustainability,” said Roswell Mayor Kurt Wilson.

The 3 million dollar project of the city of Roswell deals with problems at the Roswell Area Park Pond.

The rehabilitation of the dam of the pond is an essential focus because it was triggered due to the infiltration of tree roots. Around 57 “voluntary” trees that have grown by themselves are removed to restore the function and safety of the dam.

The infrastructure of the pond, which was originally designed as farm pond in the 1950s, has deteriorated over time. The project replaces missing corrugated metal pipes by reinforced concrete pipes and builds up water outlet structures in order to improve the water flow and adhesive capacity.

Remove the accumulated sediment, improve the functions of rainwater management of the pond and improve water quality. This offers a healthier habitat for fish and other wild animals.

In the week of October 6, the contractor is expected to begin drainage of the pond and the relocation of wild animals, the focus on the safe and human shift of fish from the pond.

The pond and the surrounding paths are closed for the public during the construction. The public access routes are adapted and benches and monuments are saved safely and reinstalled after construction.

The contractor should begin rehabilitation of excavator and embankments in the week of December 1st.

The city expects the project to be completed by autumn next year.
