Five in-state West Virginia University (WVU) students studying landscape and horticulture will each receive $5,000 thanks to the West Virginia Nursery & Landscape Association (WVNLA) Marcus W. Rennix Scholarship Program.
Robert Gompers, WVNLA president and owner of Highland Landscaping in Buckhannon, said the WVU scholarship recipients will be recognized at the association's winter symposium on Feb. 11 in Charleston.
- Penelope Edwards of Morgantown, a graduate majoring in landscape architecture
- Chelsea Elliott of Bridgeport, a graduate majoring in landscape architecture
- Samuel Glazier of Charleston, a senior studying landscape architecture
- Alaira Hudson of Davis, a graduate majoring in landscape architecture
- Hailey Lane of New Martinsville, a senior studying horticulture.
Glazier and Lane were 2024 recipients of the Rennix Scholarship and met the reapplication guidelines.
Julie Robinson, executive director of the WVNLA, said the association prioritizes providing scholarships to West Virginians wherever they study to stimulate the nursery and landscaping industries. Applications for the Marcus W. Rennix Scholarship are accepted annually through the WVNLA website.
Applicants wishing to apply for a scholarship must study horticulture, landscape architecture or nursery and greenhouse management. She said students must be in-state residents, have completed half of the required courses in ornamental horticulture or landscape architecture and have maintained a grade point average of at least 2.5.
