ROCKY HILL, Conn. (WTNH) — The Rocky Hill-Glastonbury Ferry is set to receive some improvements this winter's off-season, the Connecticut Department of Transportation announced Friday.

The ferry is the longest-running, continuously operating ferry in the country and has been operating on the Connecticut River since 1655.

The project includes new decorative fencing, gates and lighting to secure the ferry when docked and prevent unauthorized access, according to the CTDOT.

The upgrades will focus on improving safety, accessibility and aesthetics at both Glastonbury and Rocky Hill piers.

The Rocky Hill Landing will receive new sidewalks, ramps and pedestrian connections. New benches will also be installed.

The project cost $533,335 and was funded by the state of Connecticut.

Construction will begin in November and will last until spring 2026, according to CTDOT.
