Relac is a chilled water -grinding cooling system that Anne -Wassersee turns in air conditioning for hundreds of town houses and condominiums in Reston
Reston, Va. – Many people in Reston are upset after another day without air conditioning. The problem comes from a system installed in the 1960s, which uses chilled water from the Anne -See.
Relac is a chilled water -grinding cooling system that absorbs the sea water and transforms it into air conditioning for hundreds of condominiums and town house units in the region. Last week, a pump error supposedly weakened the A/C system, so that some of the units that it further away from the lake do not receive air conditioning.
Sean Cooper has been living at Lake Anne in Reston for about 20 years. He was pulling condominiums in Vantage Hill, which are serviced by Relac.
“Relac pulls water from the lake, compresses it and cools it and then pumps it over everything about Reston,” said Cooper. “We happen to be at the other end as soon as we are received, there are very little cool.”
Cooper says relac has announced that a pump error causes the problem. His new place has been without air conditioning since Friday.
“We have a portable unit, so it's not bad, but it's pretty hot,” said Cooper. “Pretty hot, pretty damp. I don't think we can now get less than 80 out of the ventilation slots. On the heat it comes really warm that it gets warm there very quickly.”
The Reston Association said Wusa9 that Relac is a private individual who serves over 340 townhomes and over 250 condominiums around the Annesee.
The Reston Association is not connected and has no control over Relac, but said that they received a handful of calls from residents around Lake Anne who say that their air conditioning does not work properly.
“I think it was built in the middle of the 1960s and it was a really cool idea for the time. Environmentally friendly, a municipal A/C -Ding, but 50 years have passed,” said Cooper. “Parts collapse, it is special equipment and it is difficult to maintain.”
According to Cooper, Relac has informed the residents without air conditioning that it should be restored at some point on Wednesday. We turned to shape ourselves, but we didn't hear back.
