It is one of the last pieces in the puzzle of the solution – many hope – transit problems along the northeast corridor.
“The most intense and most busy main train in all of North America is on these two tracks,” said Stephen Gardner, CEO from Amtrak.
“In many ways, this project is more than just a beautifully looking bridge,” said Kris Kolluri, President and CEO of NJ Transit. “This is the basis of our economy.”
On Wednesday, the leaders of NJ Transit and Amtrak visited the construction site of the mega project, which includes two and a half miles and 50 feet above the Hackensack River. One day the sunset will be the current portal bridge, which goes back more than a century and the guilty comes behind many delays.
“The fact that the current infrastructure took well over a hundred years is a miracle for itself,” said Kolluri.
The middle arc of the three is the one who has just been used. Officials say that in autumn 2026 they are still up to date to open the first route of the North Bridge portal.
“We will start changing and cutting the traces and acting to serve from the existing route on the new bridge,” said Laszlo Borhi, Project Executive for Skanska.
According to officials, this will start next year.
