The Caetani Center in Vernon is raising funds to revitalize the site

Give Caetani green space

On Giving Tuesday, the Caetani Center in Vernon hopes people will donate to the Cultivating Creative Community initiative – a revitalization of the Caetani site as a vibrant, artistic and climate-adaptive green space.

Giving Tuesday, December 2nd, is a global movement with a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good.

Caetani officials said they rely on donations to create a sustainable and inspiring outdoor space for everyone to enjoy.

To support the project, the City of Vernon donated plants and funds for a rainwater capture system through its sustainability grant.

The project also received funding from the Community Foundation North Okanagan through the Smart & Caring Grant program.

The center is working with permaculturist Keli Westgate of Lekker Land Design on the outdoor green space.

Donations will support garden rejuvenation, creative improvements and the development of a water-focused, community-run gathering space.

With every monetary donation, donors support the center's top priorities, including a perennial pollinator and inspiring plants for artists; sustainable water practices such as rain harvesting, smart irrigation and water retention measures, including everything from mulching to grading; Native tree species that replace invasive species and provide shade, protection and habitat for ecologically sensitive species, as well as ongoing advice and work in permaculture.
