The National Garden program offers visitors unique access to over 3,500 extraordinary private gardens in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Canal Islands. We will take a look at this open in Cumbria in the coming weeks
It all started with the desire to collect money for district health sisters. In 1927 the National Garden Scheme (NGS) started with the aim of using the nation's love. The owners were asked to invite a “Schilling a Head” in public. A total of 609 did this and collected £ 8,191. Over the years, the mission of the program expanded and now collects for a wide range of nursing and health-related charity organizations, including MacMillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie and Queen's Nursing Institute. It also supports those that are benefited for the physical and mental health of gardens and offers grants and scholarships for community garden projects.
The famous participants in the program included Sir Winston Churchill and the renowned garden designer Vita Sackville-West. Below you will find a summary of the Cumbrian Gardens Open in July and August:

About: A newly created, medium -sized hut garden next to the Lyvennet river in a village environment. Next to the house there is a formal garden of lawn, herbal boundaries and box protection. Then there is a small orchard and vegetable beds. A wild area contains a meadow, a natural feather pond and a ditch as a measurement of the flood reduction. There are also a number of green roofs and a sitting area of the river banks.

About: 12 years ago from scratch. Productive organic vegetable area, trellis apples, soft fruit, area for wild animals, including small pond, greenhouse, ornamental pond and herbaceous limits. About a eighth one in the morning. This garden opens as part of Brampton East Gardens.
When: Sunday, July 6th, 1pm to 3pm
Refreshments: Homemade teas in Ridge House. Visitors can picnicking in the community garden, the weather allows. The sand grass area can also be used for picnics that also have a roof accommodation.

About: More Cornwall than Cumbria, according to Country Life, a colorful four hectare garden full of exotic and rare plants with a dramatic view over the bay of Morecambe. The excellent features include the orangerie, the Japanese garden with Infinity pool, the Italian terraces and the restored Victorian kitchen garden. Dahlias, cannas and colorful exoticism are a specialty.

Larch Cottage Nurseries Larch Cottage Nurseries

About: A unique kindergarten and garden that has been designed and built in the past 40 years. The gardens include lawns, flowing several years of borders, rare and unusual shrubs, trees, a small orchard and a vegetable garden. A natural stream runs into a small lake, a port for wild animals and birds. At the top of the lake is a small frescoed chapel, which was designed and built by the owner for family use.
When: Thursday, July 10th, Thursday, August 7th, Thursday, September 4, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

About: Colorful cottage style garden style with 300 feet on conductors with a view of BlackCombe and the Coniston Hills. Plant on a coastal situation. Wildlife pond, forest area, herbal edges, vegetable and fruit beds, a bee that attract slate socks, two summer houses and many seating areas to relax. In addition, an outdoor wc is disguised as a Tardis!

About: A five -hectare country garden, which is limited by the banks of the Eden River and has a breathtaking view. Many fine conifers, acer and rhododendrons, herbaceous borders, hostas, ferns, grasses, heaths and several hundred roses. Four formal ponds plus rock pool.
