Salmo's bright idea

The employees of the council and the city will discuss how the expiring funds of Salmo are assigned for a plan to install three solar lights on a local hiking trail.
The recommendation will be presented at the Council meeting on February 11th to determine whether the city will use the LGCAP fund (Local Government Climate Action Program) to pay the project.
On January 20, a special meeting took place to end the LGCAP funds at the end of March.
The village administration selected several options from the guidance of the council and in connection with an electrical company that rated the location and the strength of the lights.
The company then recommended that the village with sunlight, based on the location, rethink that there was inadequate sunlight on this side of the mountain on this side of the mountain to generate the necessary performance.
They suggested that a separate battery, infrastructure and electricity storage would be necessary for each light, which would triple the costs of the project. The lights each cost around 15,000 US dollars.
The company encouraged the advice to contact the Ministry of Transport and Fortis BC to use the power of a former radio station nearby, which was broadcast from 2008 to 2017.
However, these changes would disqualify the project from the use of LGCAP financial means.
Now the city has to decide how to continue to deliver the required lighting.
