Five new coin designs, including those featuring the red arrows and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, have been unveiled by the Royal Mint ahead of the New Year.
The Royal Mint's 2025 annual set will be available next week and will include new designs for the 50p, £2 coin and £5 coin.
Two 50p coins have been designed to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first Red Arrows exhibition and to commemorate those who played a crucial role in the Second World War.
The two new £2 coin designs celebrate 200 years of modern railways and the founding of the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London.
A £5 coin has also been designed to celebrate the life and legacy of the Queen Mother.
The 2025 commemorative sets will be available from January 2nd via the Royal Mint website in a range of precious metal and base protection finishes, with prices starting from £39.50.
Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, £5 coin
To mark the Queen Mother's 125th birthday, the coin features a portrait that was part of a design for her 80th birthday in 1980.
350th Anniversary of the Royal Observatory
The Royal Observatory was commissioned by King Charles II in 1675 and is dedicated to improving maritime navigation and timekeeping.
A new Greenwich £2 coin design will feature the Shepherd Gate Clock, the constellation Ursa Minor, the star Polaris and the prime meridian on a globe.
There will also be the words “Perfecting the Art of Navigation” on the edge.
200 years of modern railways £2 coin
On September 27, 1825, George Stephenson's steam-powered locomotive No. 1 carried hundreds of passengers in England over 26 miles between Shildon, Darlington and Stockton.
The coin's design celebrates the journey 200 years ago and reads: “Active Transportation No. 1.”
Red arrows 50 pence coin
Next year will mark the 60th anniversary of the Red Arrows' first presentation, and there will be a commemorative coin showing the Red Arrows in flight, depicting their speed and agility.
The reverse of the coin features three Red Arrows BAE Systems Hawk T1 aircraft, accompanied by the colored tracks used in the team's flight demonstrations.
Stories about the World War II 50p coin
The 50p coin features the 1939-45 Star, a Defense Medal and a War Medal. According to the Mint, these medals are awarded to millions of people for their war service and symbolize the unique experiences of World War II.
From January 4, visitors to the Royal Mint Experience in South Wales will also have the opportunity to mint a £2 coin dated 2025.
