Limerick City and County Council has secured the services of a sustainability tester who is reported on various aspects of the festival, including waste management, energy consumption and general CO2 footprint. As an excitement for the 21st Riverfest at May Bank Holiday Weekend (02 to May 5), Limerick City and County Council is proud to highlight the green initiatives this year.
Sustainability Highlights:
- Practices with Zero key: Riverfest Limerick establishes the segregation stations of waste at the locations of the festival. These stations make it easier to sort general waste, recycles and compost and ensure that the materials are disposed of responsibly. Trained employees are available to support the participants in proper waste disposal in order to distract waste from landfills.
- Environmentally friendly journey: If we recognize the environmental impact of transportation, we encourage the participants to use public transport options to achieve the festival. The decision for buses, trains, walking or carpooling helps to reduce carbon emissions associated with the use of cars in connection with the use of cars.
- Digital event materials: In order to minimize paper use, all event cards, schedules and information are digitally available. The participants can download the Riverfest Limerick 2025 event card to control the celebrations.
- Green provider: Food providers are asked to offer food options from the region, organic and plant base, which reduces the CO2 footprint associated with the production and transport of food.
These efforts match Limericks Climate Action Week, which lasts from April 28 to May 5 and increases Limerick's commitment to environmental responsibility. You can find more information here

By prioritizing sustainability, we improve the festival experience and also protect our beautiful city and its natural environment.
