The pier will remain accessible to the public during the construction. The work is expected to take two weeks.
San Diego-Die maintenance work is expected to continue at the Imperial Beach Pier in the next two weeks, as tree teams replace 154 deck boards on the 62-year structure.
The pier remains open in the course of work. However, the public should be aware that construction equipment and materials are located on the pier. Occasionally, the crews may have to redirect people to work they do.
“I think the pier is a wonderful part of our community. It is a nice way to look at the water without getting into the water,” said Brittany Voeller. She pushed her two boys up to 3 and 10 months down the pier in a stroller.
This work is part of a 2.6 million dollar project of San Diego's port.
The crews had removed and replaced about 14 boards by Friday morning.
“Last November, December, you have a bunch of [new planks] About 20 meters high, “said Larry Hunt from Tierasanta.” The new planks are much more stable than those outside. This will expand the lifespan of this pier. “
Hunt said he loves fishing from the pier.
“We have already lost the Ocean Beach Pier, Crystal Pier needs repairs, the pier in Oceanside is burned. This is one of the best places to fish,” said Hunt.
As soon as the repairs on the deck booters have been completed in April, the crews will update the electrical infrastructure.
There are also plans for a splash pad near the pier. The construction of this project is expected in 2026.
