Park manager Karen (employee) said the pool will open “on the 14th.” opened and the parks department introduced new registration software; Staff revised the original registration number from 65 to 75 people who signed up for swimming lessons. Karen also thanked donors and partners; She said the Connor Flaherty Foundation funded two new shade awnings at the pool that were installed this year.
Larkin, identified at the meeting as an assistant pool manager, was thanked by staff and commissioners for the operational work at the pool. Larkin and Karen told the commission that the pool pump that circulates the water had seized bearings and a worn impeller from decades of use; Scott, the Public Works employee, said the replacement part is expected to be installed the next day and that the pool inspection will be scheduled after the pump work is completed.
Scott, who provided the public works update, listed recent repairs and outstanding items at River Park: repaired main irrigation breaks, removal of destroyed facilities and a boat ramp dock that cannot yet be returned to service because the concrete anchor holding the cable is broken. Scott said his office had a preliminary anchor design that needed to be fabricated by a local shop and that dock installation should be completed the same day the new anchor was installed.
As for the playground equipment, Scott said replacement swings had arrived, but other attachment clips were required; Staff have reordered the hardware and expect the remaining swings to be installed shortly. Scott also said staff welded and straightened several sections of decorative fencing around the children's pool area and removed temporary chains and hazards.
Staff said the splash pad bid set has been completed and is currently being reviewed by staff until a remaining structural element is submitted by the project developer. When this item is received, employees assume they will submit offers. The commission was also informed that there is now a farmers' market opposite the town hall on Wednesday evenings from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Commissioners thanked staff for their work preparing parks and facilities for the summer season. No formal Commission action was taken on these maintenance and capital items during the meeting.
