From the agent: This is the second home built by architect Harwell Hamilton Harris, which he built after spending several formative years in the office of Richard Neutra. One of the many things he learned there was the importance of the module, having witnessed Neutra's design. However, it was the work of Frank Lloyd Wright that set him on the path to architecture – the foundation for which had been laid during a visit to Hollyhock House years earlier. It can be seen in the Laing House with its stucco walls, wide eaves, ribbon windows and an enclosed balcony. The single-story house, which stands out from the street, consists of two distinct volumes separated at the entrance. The rooms of the house flow into one another in such a way that each room feels like a part of another and appears much larger than its dimensions suggest. The original garden plan featured California native plants and was developed in consultation with Theodore Payne.
