NHBFA supports GreenSource Fabrication's new UHDI PCB production facility in NH

GreenSource Fabrication, a subsidiary of Whelen Engineering, will expand its presence in New Hampshire with a new state-of-the-art Ultra High Density Interconnect (UHDI) circuit board manufacturing facility.

The New Hampshire Business Finance Authority (NHBFA) Board of Directors unanimously approved a bond of up to $50,000,000 to support this project. The US Department of Defense (DoD) is also involved in the approval as a financing partner. The 98,000 square foot facility will be built in Charlestown and will focus on manufacturing UHDI circuit boards using state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly technologies to minimize waste and energy consumption.

This project marks a new chapter for Whelen Engineering, whose subsidiary GreenSource will occupy the new facility. GreenSource, founded in 2019 and an industry leader in sustainable UHDI circuit board production, received a $46.2 million grant from the Department of Defense to enhance its capabilities in UHDI circuit board manufacturing for the defense sector.

These funds will be used for the new facility's advanced production equipment with the goal of increasing production quality, supporting national security initiatives and diversifying GreenSource's customer base.

“Supporting Whelen Engineering and GreenSource in building a world-class facility here in Charlestown is an exciting step for New Hampshire’s manufacturing sector,” said NHBFA Executive Director James Key-Wallace. “This facility will not only meet the growing domestic demand for UHDI circuit boards, but also create new, high-quality jobs in Sullivan County. We are proud to partner with Whelen Engineering on this project, which will benefit our community, state and national safety.”

With the expansion, GreenSource plans to retain 142 existing jobs and create an additional 50 to 100 jobs. Additionally, Whelen and GreenSource are working with high schools and colleges in New Hampshire to recruit new talent and provide students with internship and full-time opportunities in the rapidly evolving field of UHDI PCB manufacturing.

“This facility represents a monumental investment in the future of American manufacturing,” said Ashish Jain, CEO of GreenSource Fabrication. “Our partnership with the NHBFA and DoD underscores our shared vision for innovation, security and sustainability.

The green technologies incorporated into the new facility are not only good for the environment, but also critical to our long-term success and growth.”

GreenSource is pioneering sustainable production methods for UHDI circuit boards, including a proprietary wastewater treatment system that recycles nearly all water used during production and minimizes waste disposal. Through closed loop systems, the facility reuses each gallon of water 30-40 times, achieving impressive environmental efficiency.

Founded in 1952, Whelen Engineering has grown from humble beginnings in Connecticut to become a global leader in emergency warning systems. Known for its unwavering commitment to reliability and quality, the company designs, sources and manufactures its products in America. Whelen's mission is to protect those who protect and serve others by creating reliable products that people can rely on when lives are at stake.

As Whelen Engineering and GreenSource expand their capabilities in New Hampshire, the state continues to establish itself as a center for advanced manufacturing, supporting both economic growth and national interests.
