Mumbai's newest boutique hotel is a love letter to travel and design

The fine dining doesn't stop at The Kin. Dadar is the thriving traditional heart of central Mumbai, arguably underserved by the city's hotel scene. And considering what a big draw the local dining scene is, it's a wonder more boutique accommodation hasn't opened here. One of Mumbai's most famous vada pav shops is just a minute's walk away (Ashok Vada Pav), there's delicious misal pav at Aaswad or kheema pav at the 150-year-old Parsi cafe Light of Bharat (or LOB for old-timers). Not to mention, there are long queues for seafood all over the area at some of the city's best Malvani joints, including Gomantak, Chaitanya and Jai Hind Lunch Home and Acharekars Malvan Katta. And if you're in the mood for Mumbai's nightlife, dance the night away until the early hours at Bastian – At The Top on the 48th floor of Kohinoor Square.

In addition to the neighborhood's wide selection of restaurants, be sure to visit the bustling Dadar Flower Market with hundreds of vendors and lots of sophisticated street art. Mumbai's favorite record store (The Revolver Club); tons of sari shops; and dozens of Art Deco buildings scattered throughout Shivaji Park. Another neighboring highlight is the Dadar Parsi Colony, the largest Zoroastrian enclave in the city. The property is also a short walk from the Shivaji Park cricket ground, where players like Sachin Tendulkar once played amateur games.

Located a 30-minute drive from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport during off-peak hours (double drive during peak hours), Kin is perfect for quick trips to Bandra or the top of SoBo.

On the second floor there is a connecting room perfect for small families, and with five rooms per floor, large families can use the entire floor to themselves. Additionally, The Kin is run by a dedicated, close-knit family, and they want that dynamic to extend to everyone who stays here and strive to meet every guest that comes through their doors. Guneet's little daughter even has a self-illustrated children's book for sale in the concept store, which delights guests of all ages.

Entirely curated by Guneet, The Kin's concept store features all the crafts and design elements made in India, apart from the fine selection of coffee table books and the elegant compilation of prints sourced from Copenhagen. We're talking about hand-poured candles made from 100 percent soy wax and featuring a non-toxic wick, as well as locally made metal candle holders commissioned exclusively by The Kin, set up next to an iPad that showcases the artisans' process and thus indicating the origin and respect for the craftsmen who work behind the scenes. This sustainable spirit is reflected in the glass water bottles and small quantities of toiletries in the hotel rooms.
