Ministry of Environment and Water

A total of 27 landscape committee membership positions have been filled, covering the Eyre Peninsula, Hills and Fleurieu, Kangaroo Island, Limestone Coast, Murraylands and Riverland, Northern and Yorke and SA Arid Lands.

Landscape committees play an important role in working with their communities and stakeholders to provide strategic leadership and implement regional priorities with a focus on land, water, animals, pests and biodiversity.

The appointment of 13 women and 14 men will achieve greater gender balance and better reflect the diversity of the communities they serve.

Five of South Africa's nine landscape committees will now have gender balance or a majority of women.

Current projects include reintroducing bettongs in the Dhilba-Guuranda-Innes National Park, restoring vital habitat for threatened forest birds in the Mount Lofty Ranges, controlling wild game populations in the South East and helping land managers optimize soil health for productivity and Environmental results.

A robust and competitive nomination process was undertaken before Minister for Climate, Environment and Water, Susan Close, appointed Board members based on their skills, knowledge and experience.

The appointment of Green Adelaide and Alinytjara Wilurara Landscape Boards occurs through a separate process.
