AThere are ecological citizens, many of us strive to recycle plastic, but amazing 95% still land on landfill, combustion facilities or worse streams, streams, beaches and the oceans.
The reason? Mostly economy – there is little demand for recycled plastics. This drives a massive plastic pollution and health crisis, which deteriorates annual plastic production within 30 years due to the plans of petrochemical industry.
To combat this, the Los Altos Rotary Climate Action Committee with Nextrex has a program for the introduction of a program 4 “Soft and stretchy” plastic waste (e.g. for Restaurant Decks in downtown Los Altos.
In just six months, phase 1 of the program resolved over £ 1,000 plastic thanks to the contributions from Rotary Club members and companies.
The Rotary Club of Los Altos thanks companies, including Chicos FAS, Cheeky Monkey Toys, Cranberry Scoop, Demartini Orchard, Discovery Shop, Linden Tree Books, Los Altos Hardware, Paperwhirl and SkateWorks.
The collected plastic is weighed, marked and sent to Local Safeway and happy supermarkets that transport it to Nextrex.
In recognition, Nextrex donated a Trex bank to be installed near the Los Altos Community Center this spring.
The second phase aims to include more companies, schools and organizations such as the MVLA Service League of Boys. A stronger participation will deepen the community's awareness of the myths of the recycling and keep more plastic from landfills.
The residents can help in different ways: 1) Reduce plastic consumption in general; 2) With the type 4 “Soft and stretchy” plastic waste in Safeway, Lucky, Los Altos Village Association (75 Main Street) or “loading” in one place. and 3) participate in reduction programs for your home, school or community group.
