Carla Caletti exhibition at El Zaguán
The Historic Santa Fe Foundation announced in a press release that an exhibition of new paintings by Carla Caletti will open to the public on January 31 at 5 p.m. This exhibition, titled “Interior Landscape: Resurrecting Personal Mythology,” features a selection of the artist’s most recent works created in her Santa Fe studio. It will take place at the El Zaguán art space, 545 Canyon Road in Santa Fe. The exhibition runs until March 1st. Additionally, the public is invited to an artist talk and screening with Caletti on February 8 at 2 p.m
According to the press release, in this series of exhibitions, Caletti explores her inner world by drawing on memories and connections to nature and her ancestors. She weaves together fragments from the past and the spaces in between and brings them into the present as abstract figurative narratives.
“The resurrection of these different elements leads to new forms and associations, all existing in a similar yet unique environment and language. “In this space, abstract figurative works come together to create a personal mythology based on safety, protection, care, hope, love and prayers for the world as a whole,” said the artist.
Caletti is a self-taught artist originally from Sonoma County, California. She works with acrylic paint, wax, paper, fabric and occasionally found materials to create her art. While living in the San Francisco Bay Area for more than 30 years, she made trips to New Mexico beginning in 1985, traveling in her 1968 Volvo named “Lilian.” Just before the COVID pandemic, Caletti moved to Santa Fe, where she now calls home.
Caletti has presented her work in both commercial and non-profit galleries. She has created pop-up exhibitions, produced street art and curated group exhibitions including “One World, Many Faiths: Altars by Bay Area Women Artists.” For 17 years she worked as a Día de los Muertos installation artist at the SOMArts Cultural Center in San Francisco. Since moving to Santa Fe in 2019, Caletti has been very active in her artistic pursuits, which include two solo exhibitions of her work: one at Strata Gallery in April 2024 and her upcoming exhibition “Interior Landscape: Resurrecting Personal Mythology” at El Zaguán im February.
