How to mix in comfort with the outdoor style

For Jamie Gasparovic, founder and main designer of Studio Gaspo, one of today's biggest design trends is the cohesion: the style and the feeling of interior brings seamlessly outdoors.

To achieve this, Gasparovic recommends repeating inner aesthetics, but not copying. “If your interiors are shelpfliptural and reserved, your outer space can carry it with curved concrete seats and a recovered plant range,” she says. One or two elements such as metal places, stone tone or a characteristic fragrance can signal continuity.

If your interior overlaps and is full of personality, Gasparovic recommends doing the same outside: enlarge the Matchy terrace, mix textures and materials, play with scaling, sprinkle vintage finds and select parts that feel at home in the interiors.

Kirt Roque from Oasis plasters and pools suggests looking at the architectural style of the house to inspire the design of an outdoor area.

“Good designers deliver functional projects, but great designers make it look as if the indoor and outdoor areas feel as if they should always exist together,” says Roque.

The founder and general contractor of landscape fusion, Mike Loomis, says that the continuity between indoor and outdoor spaces can be achieved with sliding doors rather than with windows or solid walls, creating a more seamless transition. Covered terraces and verands can extend the living space, while the use of a similar color scheme for indoor floors and exterior plasters further improves the connection.

In the end, thoughtful design decisions can blur the boundaries between interior and out and create a lively experience that feels effortless and completely.
