The Herricks High School won gold at the individual fence competition Nassau Boys, which took place on February 1 at the Garden City High School.

After long and hard games, Senior Om Thakur won gold for Epee and in the second year William Wei won gold for Sabre.

Thakur has been a fencing since his seventh grade and it is not the first time that he won gold. During the Nassau fencing competition 2023, Thakur won his first gold for Epee.

Thakur against the former champion Luke Kugler from Oyster Bay against the former champion, Luke Kugler, could not win much difference to feel safe in the game.

“Some people in the crowd definitely said:” It's definitely a game, Kugler will definitely get the top “, but I have changed my way of thinking. I am how, let me have fun, let's ignore all of the outside noises,” said Thakur.

In the middle of the Garden City High School, the individual championship of Nassau Face 2025 was on a sudden death game in which Thakur won the gold with 14-13.

“To get the last touch, see the light, see my club and my schools from all over the county, which only jump with joy and cheers – that was really an amazing feeling. Knowing that I have friends and an integral part of Nassau County Foncing and the fencing community as a whole, ”said Thakur.

William Wei only started in his first high school year.

He didn't have an easy game either. After Wei fell 5-0 to open the championship and suffer two fights on the back of the head, Wei scored a comeback.

Wei secured the gold and won 15-13.

Healy and his brother Tyler Healy joined the role of Herrick's caught head coaches this season.

“When we arrived there, they were not really managed by fence coaches, so they didn't really have a right structure to practice,” said Healy.

The team practices six days a week from Monday to Saturday to prepare for competitions.

“Everything we really did for you were to give them an environment in which they could also help to build other fencers. I think both take over these leadership roles – in Ephi and Wei in Sabre – not only our team, but it also helped them to become more sure what they are doing on the strip, ”said Healy.

Healy said a large part of Thakur and Weis Zaunredit goes to her fencing clubs outside of school. Thakur visits the North Shore Fencers Club and Wei visits the Allegro -Fenecing Center.
