Gate 2026 Registration begins on August 25th under Gate2026.iitg.ac.in. The exam is planned for the 7th, 8th, 14th and 15th of February.

Iit Guwahat has activated the official portal and will hold the Gate 2026 exam on four days in February.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahate officially started the portal for the graduate test for engineering (Gate) in 2026. The exam is to take place on two weekends on February 7th, 8th, 14th and 15th, 2026. The official website for the test, gate2026.iitg.ac.in, is now live.
The registration process for Gate 2026 begins on August 25, 2025. The candidates can apply without a late fee by September 25th, while the extended period is concerned with a late fee on October 6, 2025. The results are expected to be announced on March 19, 2026.
Who can apply?
Students in their third year or about studying basic studies or those who have completed a degree in engineering, technology, architecture, science, trade, art or humanities from a government recognized by the government.
In addition, candidates with certification of professional societies such as ICE, IETE, AESI, IICHE, IIM and IIIE can also apply, provided that their qualifications are recognized by Moe/Aicte/UGC/UPSC as equivalent to the relevant bachelor's degree. Outside degrees and those who pursue a university formation are also justified.

New topic introduced
This year, gate is carried out in 30 disciplines. A new paper entitled Energy Science (XE-I) was introduced in the Engineering Sciences category. Candidates can choose one or two papers, but only approved combinations are permitted.
The test subjects extend through technology and technology (e.g. civil, mechanical, electrical, electronic, electronic, computer science, instrumentation) and natural sciences and humanities (e.g. physics, mathematics, statistics, humanities, biosciences).

Gate examination pattern
Each paper has a total of 100 points, with 15 marks being assigned for general suitability and 85 points for subject -specific questions. All papers are carried out in English.
Some disciplines follow a section structure:
XE (Engineering Sciences): mandatory mathematics + two optional subjects (e.g. fluid mechanics, thermodynamics)
XH (humanities): mandatory thinking + an optional subject (e.g. economy, psychology)
XL (biosciences): mandatory chemistry + two optional topics (e.g. botany, zoology)
The candidates must carefully select their paper codes during registration.
Application fee
The fee structure is as follows:
Female / SC / ST / PWD candidates:
Regular period: RS 1,000 per paper
Late period: RS 1,500 per paper
Other candidates:
Regular period: RS 2,000 per paper
Spaetzit: RS 2,500 per paper
