Linear lime and wooden house sits in a birch tree garden

The design for Gaiss lime and wooden house emphasizes a balanced material composition and integration into its natural environment in Mārupe. Latvia. The residence Is A Wood-Tructure moved in with cellulose insulation, completed with lime plaster both in the interior and in the outside.

The house is a linear volume with a symmetrical window arrangement and a cubic form positioned in a birch tree garden. An extended roof structure combines the garage, the main house and the garden terrace and forms a coherent architectural composition. The facade on the ground floor is dressed in wood, while the upper level is rendered into limestone plaster. Colored roof terraces and handrails lead to variations in shape that define areas for external use.

Gaiss consistently creates a coherent design language

The entrance is located between the garage and the main house, protected under the extensive roof. A large window serves as a visual element in the input sequence, while the door is dressed in facade boards and has a curved steel platform on the handle. Inside, a continuous concrete floor extends over the ground and creates a uniform living space. Floor and ceiling openings connect the interior to the garden and the terrace. The walls are coated in warm tones in structured lime plaster, which contributes to the spatial character.

The design team In Gaiss, a central wooden staircase constructs and acts as a connecting element between the two levels. It has solid, amazing handrails and steps that culminate in a double room with a skylight that filters natural light down to the lower floor.

Gaiss' limestone and wooden house follows energy efficiency strategies

The design of Lime and Timber House by Gaiss contains energy efficiency strategies. The main volume follows a compact cuboid shape and optimizes the thermal performance. Unheated service areas, including the garage and terrace, introduce spatial variations and contribute the overall efficiency. Most windows are aligned to the south to maximize the profits of heat heat, while an overhanging roof on the ground floor and the window brand on the upper level ensures shades to regulate the interior temperatures.
