Rad+AR creates a commercial shift garden in Jakarta
Protective huts in the garden of Slope (SS), designed by von von Row+ARIs a commercial Garden Project is located in North Jakarta, Indonesia. The development introduces four animal shelters, which are embedded in a sunken, differentiated green Roof landscapecombine retail And Dining rooms With a focus on natural integration, air flow and shading. The project sets an alternative to conventional retail typologies by aligning the architectural form with environmental performance and public experience.
The design sits four structures in a layered garden that decreases down towards an adjacent city lake. This agreement not only preserves views, but also promotes ventilation via the location. The seating areas increased above the garden connect directly to the water, while the expansive green roof offers protection before the sun rays in the tropical climate of Jakarta. The beveled roof also generates setbacks and breaks that connect the front boulevard to the lake and enable a continuous pedestrian movement and spatial variation.

“Sunken Ground” concept anchored protective huts in the Slope Garden
The program is organized by a central community court, whereby the circulation paths develop as a meandering sequence from the entrance to the inner garden. The ground of the ground merges into a reception and bar area and leads visitors through a Skylit Lobby towards the restaurant and central space. The architectural concept is based on the idea of the “sunken soil” and refers to both Indonesian and global garden traditions in which central landscapes act as anchor for social activities. In this project, the sunken courtyard is a focus on meetings, while protective volumes above the boom to the outside in order to offer panoramic views both via the boulevard and the water. Essential, translucent blankets and extensive glazing merge with vegetation to create a visual continuity between architecture and landscape. The archery protection volumes are designed as prototypes that stretch panoramically along the coast and increase the visual connections and at the same time rise and envelop the green roof. By preserving one of the last remaining Seebront locations in the region, the project avoids the typical protective development model and instead suggests a sustainable framework for commercial space in Jakarta.
