Evergreen Fire/rescue fire brigade managers saved a yak in a frozen pond in Evergreen Memorial Park on Wednesday afternoon.
Two firefighters wade into the icy water to open a path to the bank for the YAK while others were waiting for them. The firefighters freed the YAK out of the ice with a chainsaw in a Facebook video from Evergreen Fire/Rescue. The YAK made it back to her herd and, according to the post office, no injuries were reported.
The three-year-old female YAK was initially incorrectly identified as a bison, according to a Facebook post follow-up.
According to Evergreen Fire/Rescue, the YAK is part of a private herd.
