FG is looking for measures for sustainable water management

The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitary facilities, Joseph Usev, called for stronger efforts to maintain water when Nigeria took the global community when marking the World Water Day 2025.

At a press conference in Abuja on Saturday, UTSEV said that the topic of “glacier preservation” reflects the importance of global water security and the effects of climate change on fresh water resources.

The minister found that Although Nigeria has no glacier, due to climate change, the fast melting contributes to increasing sea level, irregular weather patterns and freshwater deficiency.

He said that this indirectly influences the country through increased floods, droughts and declining agricultural productivity.

“Glaciers deliver 70 percent of the world's fresh water and their loss is a serious threat to global water systems.”

He explained that the ministry had carried out several initiatives to tackle these problems and to improve the access of the water and sustainability.

“This includes the partnership for extended water supply, hygiene and hygiene (Pewash), which focuses on improving rural water supply, and the national action plan for Wash, which aims to clear Nigeria by 2025.”

Mr. UTSEV said the ministry invested in irrigation, solar -powered boreholes and flood surveillance to improve water consumption and management.

He called for a collaborative approach to coping with Nigeria's water challenges and asked the stakeholders to take measures.

“The Federal Government must strengthen the guidelines for adapting climate adjustment and flood control, while the state governments should enforce local water protection and reforestation programs,” he said.

He also encouraged the private sector to invest in environmentally friendly technologies for sustainable water management, and asked NGOs and research institutions to raise awareness of the resilience of the climate and the strategies to adapt the community.

He asked individuals and municipalities to adopt water -saving habits and to support environmental -related sustainability efforts.

Mr. UTSEV commented for international partners such as UNESCO and UNICEF for their continued support and confirmed Nigeria's commitment to the goal of the sustainable development goal (SDG) 6 – Clean water and sanitary facilities for everyone until 2030.

“Since we mark the world day, the day 2025, we renew our commitment to safe and sustainable water access for all Nigerians.

“A waterproof Nigeria is a climate -specific Nigeria,” he said.

The constant secretary of the Ministry, Richard Pheelangwah, also underlined the global importance of water protection.

“This year's topic” Glacier Preservation “underlines the effects of climate change on freshwater sources and the need for sustainable water management,” he said.

He asked collective measures at all levels to protect the water resources and emphasized that sustainable water management is essential for future generations.

Representatives of UNESCO, UNICEF, the World Bank and other important stakeholders have transmitted at the Goodwill -Nachrichten event.

The event also experienced the introduction of the guidelines for the guidelines of the climate resistant water safety and the revised technical design for washing systems.

The worldwide water day, which was observed annually on March 22, is reducing global water challenges.

In Africa south of the Sahara, 387 million people still lack access to safe water, a crisis is expected to reach 2.5 billion by 2050.
