Street lights on two main roads in East Yorkershire are to be switched off at night as part of an energy -saving trial version.
Lamp posts along the A164 from the Humber Bridge to Willerby and from Cottingham to Skidby and on the A1079 from Dunswell district traffic to the Ennerdale Bridge will not be operated from April 4.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council received £ 3.3 million in order to study more environmentally friendly ways in the future.
The project will take 12 months and “the behavior of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians is closely monitored,” said the council.
The authority said that it installed more than 80 km (more than 80 km) of new high -reflecting white lines and more than 5,000 with solar, illuminated streets along the two streets last year.
“Everyone should give drivers all the visual signs they need to navigate the road without traditional overforming lights,” added the council.
Karl Rourke, the service manager of the Council for Street Lighting, said that the attempt would use thermal imaging cameras to monitor the behavior of the driver.
“The eastern riding is at the top of this innovative project, which could lead to a massive reduction in carbon and energy on British roads,” he said.
“We are now in a phase in which we can switch off the street lamps that are not now not needed along two routes because we know that we can do it safely.
“To ensure that the move is carried out as safe as possible, we have created and tested a global artificial intelligence system that monitors the behavior and safety of the driver in important places.”
There are about 600 street lamps in the two areas, and each light uses 100 tons of CO2 during its life, the council said.
Street lamps in residential areas are not included in the program and are not affected.
