E. Coli discovered in Kearneys Cottonmill Swimming Teich

According to rehearsals, the Cottonmill swimming pond in Kearney tested positively for E. coli bacteria on Monday, August 11, 2025. Although no health warning is issued when E. Coli bacteria levels test over 235 colonies per 100 milliliters, conditions are a higher risk of human health when swimming.

“In view of the faster changes in the bacterial conditions, signs are not published with these higher values,” said a spokesman. “Although we want people to be aware of the beach conditions and use their own judgment whether they use a listed water body.”

The public is recommended to avoid swallowing sea water, shower after contact with sea water and wash your hands before eating when you were in contact with the water.

The two Rivers Public Health Department are involved with collaborative partners, managers of the community and the public to promote a healthy lifestyle, to offer preventive education, to ensure the quality of the environment and to create healthier and safe communities for everyone who lives in the district.
