David Sassoon, designer behind Princess Diana's legendary look, dies at 92 - Israel News

David Sassoon, a former co-director of the Couture House Belville Sasso, who designed over 70 outfits for Princess Diana, died with 92.

His death was confirmed Women's clothing daily by designer Zandra Rhodes.

The designer was born in London in 1932 as the son of the Iraqi Sephardi-Jewish parents and together with his creative partner Belinda Bellville as Belville Sasso's Sassoon. Sassoo made a name for himself for the British royal family for decades, including some of Princess Diana's most iconic looks, such as her wedding dress from 1981.

Designs inspired by Judaism

Sasso's work was an essential part of what Princess Diana made a “global style icon”, said the author Bethan Holt, said the author Bethan Holt Women's clothing daily. His groundbreaking designs were partly influenced by his Jewish heritage.

“The Jewish traditions played an enormous role in the clothes that I designed,” said Sassoon in an interview with the Guardian 2023 after his designs celebrated in an exhibition in the Dockland of the Museum of London in the Jewish Londoners who shaped the global style.

Sassoon hired in the 2000s and retired in 2012, according to Instyle. His cause of death was not announced.
