Craft Beer and the changing alcohol landscape on the Minnesota State Fair

A Gallup survey published this month shows that only 54% US -grown alcohol consume the smallest percentage in 90 years.

St Paul, Minn. – When the crowd this weekend flows into the Minnesota State Fair, one of the providers who saw a steady stream of customers was the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild.

“So far it has been an incredible trade fair,” said Lindsey Darling, manager for Brewers Guild. Darling says

“We have different flights from 85 different breweries (Minnesota), we have over 200 different beers, 500 barrels and they turn all day long,” said Darling.

A Gallup survey published this month showed that only 54% of US -growing alcohol drink the lowest rate in 90 years. The survey also showed that 53% of people say that a moderate drink is bad for their health, compared to 28% about 10 years ago. This is one reason why Darling says that they offer non -alcoholic beers at the fair last year.

“We always want to make sure that we bring to the fair what our members serve in their breweries,” said Darling. “And many of them not only serve beer, there are Saltzers, there are non -alcoholic options.”

This extended menu has found the Fairgoern response. Alyssa Ryanjoy, who enjoyed a coffee camp with friends, says that she also changed alcohol consumption.

“Among people my age, I think there is a shift, there are more people who go a sober route,” remarked Ryanjoy.

Fortunately for the breweries, many fair visitors still want to refresh with a cold from Brewers Guild at 9 a.m. until it closes 12 hours later.
