Construction workers rescue blind cat from frozen pond

Tiki, a 20-year-old blind black and white cat, enjoys roaming outdoors. But this time he caused a shock when he was seen floating on ice in a Massachusetts pond and then falling in. He owes his rescue this week to an alert passerby and a few nearby construction workers. “The crackling happened and I was hysterical,” passerby Dawn Felicani tells the AP. “And suddenly it fell in! His little head was sticking out! I have tears in my eyes and I’m freaking out.”

  • She called first responders and a local animal control officer in Westford. One of two construction workers from a neighboring house jumped into a rowboat, the other pushed him out and helped him navigate Nabnasset Pond. The worker in the boat used a shovel to break through the ice and get Tiki out of the water.
