We all know how advantageous compost is for the garden, and it is a great way to reduce costs and to recycle kitchen waste and other waste. However, a unruly, decomposing heap is not the most beautiful back hop functions and can spoil the overall marriage of your space. Even purchased plastic containers can be a little unsightly-at least not much in relation to the aesthetic attraction.
However, do not let the idea of the homemade compost. With a touch of know-how, there are ways to make it more sustainable without sacrificing the style.
Below you will find many ideas to compost composting in your garden, including expert tips. From personalized designs and compact units to the use of clever screening, something in this mixture should help inspire them.
1. Adjust the surroundings for a coherent look

Lynne Lambourne, Gardena sustainability ambassador, says: “We have seen all the pallets used for compost containers, and this is a simple and affordable way to create an area in which the garden waste is included. However, we can do a little creativity, however, because this aesthetics can sometimes be too rustic. '
Lynne recommends the use of materials that correspond to the aesthetics of your garden to build an environment for your compost area – think of forests, metals or surfaces that reflect nearby structures such as fences or dandruff. If, for example, your garden uses a lot of cedar, slate or gray wood, it suggests to fit the compost container made of similar wood or spots or painting poles and to give a coherent look.
Use wood that was not treated chemically to build a DIY compost tank. And if you want to paint or stain it, it is best to do this only to the outdoor area to prevent the composting material from disturbing inside. Find a product that is environmentally friendly and suitable for external use, such as the Eco wood treatment in “Silbriger Patina” from Amazon.
You can also consider using steel or galvanized containers, powder-coated metal or cedar box containers with clear lines. “These can look more polished,” notes Lynne.

2. Consider adding subjects and lids

“If you have a front door or a hinge gate (like many paletting designs), it helps with access and looks more decent,” says Lynne. She also realizes how a lid keeps the rain and makes it look like a piece of furniture.
If you are looking for something ready-made, this 95-gallon wood compost from Amazon has a hinge door and a flip-top lid and has a relatively budget-friendly price. However, note that you have to assemble it yourself.
In the case of larger rooms, you can also consider designing with compartments or bays – another suggestion from Lynne. A bay can be used for new material, a partially composted material and one for compost. “The separation adds structure and gives a” gardening “seoking,” she says.
3 .. choose small yards for hot composting or worm farms

Small rooms do not have to miss the magic of the homemade compost. Hot -composting and worm composting designs are usually compact (some, such as the essential life composter from FCMP outdoor at Amazon, are even designed for interiors). They also accelerate the composting process compared to the conventional method.
Lynne strongly recommends using a hotbin – it becomes faster (heat helps), is a decent and gives a more sophisticated look than a loose bunch. It is visually smooth, incoming, “decent garden” friendly. I have one and it hardly takes up space and looks fabulous. '

A few small details can increase your compost tank. For example, Lynne recommends using decorative hardware such as hinges and handles instead of coarse nails. This metal handle in the antique metal of Amazon could be attached to a wooden lid, for example.
Lynne also suggests how to use a handwritten table or a wood or metal plaque in its composter. This not only shows that the space has a purpose, but can also be useful to mark different bays or simply add a feeling of playfulness, depending on what it says.
If you dress up a compost area from pallets, another idea is to transform the upper edges into planters in order to get a little additional color and life. Simply secure the sack linen (at Amazon) in each individual and fill them with potting soil and plants.
5. Screening it outside the visibility

Sometimes the best option is to hide your compost container from the point of view, and there are various ways to do this.
Chris Bonnett, founder of the Great Britain Gardening Express online garden center in Great Britain, says: “If you already have a traditional compost container, you can hurt it by planting it around it so that it is integrated into the garden. Think of high decorative grass, bamboo and evergreen shrubs.
You can use a few large planters nearby if you cannot plant directly in the ground, or a planter with a connected grille (available from Amazon), decorated with a clematis or another climbing leg.
Alternatively, garden fences or stylish garden screens such as woven or laser -cut metal designs can be installed in order to hide your composting room from the main area of your garden.

How can I distract the attention from my compost container?
“A general trick that gardeners distracted from a unattractive area of the garden is to create a focus elsewhere,” says Chris. “Fingers such as water features, fireplaces, pergolas and trees will of course attract the eye's attention and take the focus from the area in which your compost tank is located.”
How can I prevent my compost container from smelling bad?
It is not only the appearance of your compost container that you may want to improve, but also its smell. This is especially the case when you work with a small garden – a bad smell can spoil the ambience if you relax or eat on a terrace nearby.
The good news is that there are opportunities to prevent stinking compost that generally lead to some composting errors. Add the right things correctly and you should be able to keep unwanted smells on a minimum.
“Composting is one of the most important things that we can do in a garden. So it is important that we integrate this into our garden design,” says Lynne. “A compost heap should not be a subsequent thought, but rather a priority in the design,” she adds. Hopefully you can make your fabulous and functional with the tips mentioned above.
