Plans for the Slawuta Pond area along the Jessie Lake Trail receive large dollars from the city of Bonnyville, and the work is scheduled to begin this summer.

During the Capital Budget discussions on April 22nd at the regular council meeting, the city included real figures from the specified projects, which roughly opened about 2.2 million US dollars.

This included one of the phases of the Lakeshore Drive Park Concept Plan, in which feedback had previously been measured on the surveys and an open day.

The five-phase master plan begins with the work around the Slawuta pond to create An urban square and a joint meeting point -environment that currently has a parking space.

“[It’s] A place that people can gather and have this sense of community. I think the community was the word that was used a lot in the vision of Boards, ”said City Councilor Kayla Blanchette the morning after.

“One of the priorities of this council was to develop a Master recreation plan for this Jessie Lake room, and it was divided into phases and various areas along Jessie Lake.”

The idea is to beautify this area, to take this currently closed parking lot and to reopen, but with more green areas. The city believes that events that could concentrate about food trucks or seller markets could have a home here.

What is included in the amenities are:

  • Installation of the playground,
  • Improved parking lot,
  • Asphalted hiking trails and decorative light extension to contain the back of the Slawuta pond, included,
  • Several points of contact with the Slawuta pond to improve the fishing experience.
  • Year -round bathroom,
  • New seating area with parking benches and flowers,
  • Increase the pleasure level for all accessible levels of pleasure.

It is expected that the work will go over the summer and be done in early 2026.

The city says that the crews will prepare the terrain by removing the existing bathroom and moving solar lights to prepare for the majority of the work this summer.

The construction in connection with the water touch points will occur in winter when the ice is thick enough to install piles, they said.

“I know that many people are concerned about the lack of parking spaces down there. There is currently a parking space in the designs for it, and the concept drawings are online,” said Blanchette.

Against this background, no trout will be equipped in the pond due to the upcoming construction system.
