Celebrate the patriotic vacation with red, white, blue flowers

When the fourth July approaches, many of us are preparing to celebrate with a patriotic decor, fireworks and meetings with family and friends. Why not extend the celebration in the garden with plants that proudly show the colors of our nation?

Let us take a closer look at the striking selection that grow in my garden that capture the spirit of the season: Red Midnight Marvel Hibiscus, White Yarrow and Blue Plumbago.

For a red show stop red, nothing works about the Midnight Marvel Hibiskus, which is currently blooming in my garden. It is a brave and beautiful herbal congestion that makes a dramatic statement with deep Burgundy-black leaves and huge scarlet red flowers that can go through 8 to 9 inches.

With midnight, Midnight Marvel blooms from midsummer to early autumn. It thrives in full sun and reaches 4 to 5 feet big and wide. The rich, wine -colored leaves offer a breathtaking contrast to the living flowers and offer visual interest, even if the plant does not bloom.

Midnight Marvel in the US farm zones 4 to 9 is generally harmful in the US agricultural zones, although Japanese beetles or aphids can occasionally occur. The correct distance reduces the likelihood of fungal problems by improving air circulation. Apply mulch in colder zones in winter to protect the roots.

Midnight Marvel not only offers an excellent decorative value, but also attracts Kolibris and butterflies while they are deer -proof. It is an excellent choice for the back of the several years of limits, where its size and color can anchor a garden bed.

White Yarrow is one of my favorites and a classic perennial that gives a soft, elegant note in garden beds and borders. Its flat clusters made of pure white flowers float over finely divided, fern-like leaves and add a lacy texture that stands out wonderfully with brave plants.

Yarrow thrives in full sun and well-thought-out soil and is ideal for hot Mississippi summer. After the foundation, this system is drought -tolerant and low -maintenance. Its nectar -rich flowers attract butterflies, bees and other useful insects.

White Yarrow is perfect for mixing with strong red and blues, serves as a visual bridge between strong colors and gives the garden an airy feeling.

Few plants offer a real blue bloom, but Blue Plumbago provides this with ease.

Plumbago is an evergreen shrub that thrives in the heat and moisture of the deep south and generates a wealth of pale to medium blue phlox-like flowers from late spring to the first frost. Its angered, half-drive growth habits makes it a varied choice for hanging baskets, in increased beds or as a bodcover cascadation along walls or borders.

Blue Plumbago is best in full sun and prefers a slightly acid, well -permeable soil. While it dies in colder zones, the plant in the USDA zones 8 and warmer often behaves like a perennial that contains a large part of Mississippi. It returns more and more energetically every year.

When you celebrate the fourth of July this year, let your garden wave your own flag – one made of flowers.
