Catford is set up for new houses, public and green rooms after the council approved a larger regeneration.

Thomas' Lane Yard, an affordable housing and a mixed regeneration system, was unanimously approved by the Lewisham Council planning committee on Tuesday.

The development will change a location “Backland” north of the Catford Broadway with more than a hundred new affordable houses, green public spaces as well as commercial and affordable work areas.

Council member James-J Walsh, a member of the Cabinet of the Lewisham Council for inclusive regeneration and planning, said: “This program is about having applied for Catford's residents.”

Plans show that two apartment blocks – eight and twelve floors – are arranged for a joint public and greenish space, which is connected to a new pub garden that was built as part of the renovation work at the former Catford Constitutional Club (CCC) location.

A total of 113 affordable houses for the location, 39 social rent and 74 common condominiums as well as more than 1,000 m² of commercial and office space.

The houses are equipped with green roofs, solar collectors and air source heat pumps.

With regard to the towers, an increased public space of 3,000 m² will be in large numbers to make the area more environmentally friendly, cleaner and accessible and at the same time take into account the concerns of the community in relation to anti -social behavior.

New trees are planted, while the majority of the existing tire trees are kept on the site.

The next phase will procure the contractor this year, whereby the construction is expected to begin in 2026.

The project is part of the first phase of the framework of the Catford Town Center, which was taken over by the Council in 2021 and has been developed in cooperation with residents and companies since then.

The restoration of the former CCC is almost complete and will be reopened later this year with a community kitchen, a pub and areas for music and art.

The revitalized club was developed as an integrative area for residents and offers employment opportunities, business maintenance, community training programs and an event calendar.
