The star triggered its Golden Retriever NED into the garden of charity organization to create a way. But ned, together with dogs by Jamie and Rhs director Clare Matterson, threw a wrench in progress.
In conversation with The Times, he said: “We watched how they move to plan the paths. We did not go according to our expectations. It meant that we had to rethink.”
Monty explained the idea of the “path” of the project and said the dogs had an impact on the layout of the garden.
“When they move, they sit and return to a kind of central point, like branches of a tree, then sideways and see what happens and move a little and then trace their steps,” he said.
He says the dogs have created a “branched, curved system”.
The Chelsea creation of Monty will contain personal details from its own Herefordshire garden, including brick paths, plant selection and color schemes, all of which are supplemented by furniture like a dog oven.
According to Monty, his innovative garden design is only “for fun” and uses plants that are easily obtained from garden centers.
When the flower show completes, the garden will find a new home at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. This is the first time that dogs actually step into the garden due to rules on the flower exhibition.
The Rhs Chelsea Flower Show runs between May 20 and 24.
