A grassy oasis is sitting on the banks of the San Francisco's Bay. Children vibrate on a wooden playground, while pedestrians navigate through rocks and local plants. Tourists flock on the edge of the water to take photos of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island. The Presidio Tunnel Tops is just one of the winning projects that are recognized by the American Society of Landscape Architects New York Chapter (ASLA-NY) in its annual design Awards program.
As in previous years, profit projects run over the country – from a pier in New York City to a park in Vancouver. Of 94 submissions, an award of excellence, eight honorary mentions and 20 Merit Awards were selected by an interdisciplinary team of experts from the ASLA Florida chapter. Each of the projects was selected to highlight the landscape architecture with design quality, innovation, community and professional effect.
All awards will be awarded on April 24 in the Arsenal in Central Park at Asla-Ny's Design Awards, and an exhibition with profit projects outdoors in Midtown during the event Earth Day issued by NYC Dot on April 26th.
The list of profit projects is reproduced below.
2025 ASLA-NY Award of Excellence

Presidio tunnel tops | Field operations
The Presidio Tunnel Tops is built on the tunnels of the Presidio Parkway and is an ecological 14 hectare area that serves as a public space in San Francisco's historical presidential president. Field Operations, the landscape architects behind the High Line in New York City, were selected for the development of the tunnel tops after an international design competition in 2014. The park has become a meeting point for the community that surrounds it, with a network of paths, creative bluff landscapes and biological diversity.

General design

EAST MIDTOWN Greenway | Stantec
The East Midtown Greenway extends from 53. To 61st streets on the east side of Manhattan. The East Midtown Greenway developed by Stantec is a new, nine-blocked in-water structure that is supposed to create a green area for pedestrians and cyclists. The design ensures security and accessibility, since the 20-foot wadder path of lush green and benches is separated from the 20-foot-wide bicycle track.

St. John's Terminal | Future green landscape architecture
Once a rail terminal for the New York Central Railroad, St. John's terminal was implemented as a work area for Google. On the west side of Manhattan, St. John's Terminal connects the high line with the Hudson River Park and creates 1.5 hectares of green areas along the coast of New York City. The landscape design of the Future Green Studio emulates a historic New York Park, lush and bold. The landscape, which both surrounds the building and surrounds the building, has plants and trees that are at home in the area and have brought over 40 native birds back to the area.

Pier 42, Hochland Park and Pier | Mnla
The Pier 42 on the East River Shoreline was previously an eight hectare parking lot and is now a park with a playground, a picnic area, a soccer field, a tennis court and a fitness station. The pier sits right next to the Vladeck houses, a public community in Lower Manhattan. The area was decimated by Hurricane Sandy in November 2012, and the residents of this community were left behind for months without electricity and services. Mnla designed Pier 42 to serve the community around them and to give the area the ecological value.

Bergen Greenway & Transit feasibility study | Super mass studio
The mountains were once part of the Erie Railroad and connected a main line bound by Manhattan with the banks of the Hudson River. The Blue Rock Tunnels, abandoned in 1959, sit along the Waterfront Jersey City. Jersey City commissioned the Supermass Studio based in New York to carry out a feasibility study in order to evaluate the life capacity of converting the mountains into a Greenway and Transit corridor – a tangible step in the urban revitalization of Jersey City.

West End Waterfront Master Plan | Snøhetta and PFS Studio
The architectural company Snøhetta based in New York came to Vancouver-based urban planning and landscape architecture firm PFS Studio to create the 30-year master plan to adapt Vancouvers West End Waterfront to climate change and the tightening of the weather events. In recent years, the riverside promenade of floods, erosion and poor water quality has fallen victim to, which has significantly damaged the landscape. The master plan tackles these concerns and deal with the municipality's demand for public green spaces in the city center of Vancouver.

Interplay Park | Off -road work
The Interplay Park was built on the Interstate-74 and connected the neighborhoods in Peoria, Illinois, which were shared in 1958 with the construction of the expansive highway. The project was designed by terrain work to combat urban spread and to increase foot traffic in Peoria's city center. The park is said to be “across generations” and contains several play areas and activity rooms to serve the surrounding population of all ages.
Community effects

Stephen Wise Towers | Dirtworks Landscape Architecture
Through interviews and community meetings, Dirtworks Landscape Architecture was able to identify improvements for the Stephen Wise Towers, a 2.7 hectare public housing development in New York. Improvements increased the game options, benches and green spaces and at the same time preserve the material of the community, including the preservation of the historical concrete horse sculptures by Constantino Nivola.
