This is the fourth solar system powered by electricity.
Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower), through its renewable energy arm Aboitiz Renewables Inc. (ARI), has commissioned its 45 megawatt (MWp) peak solar project in Armenia in Tarlac, its first solar plant in Central Luzon.
In a statement, AboitizPower said the plant was energized at the end of November. The connection to the power grid is via an 11.58-kilometer transmission line that traverses five barangays.
The solar project in Armenia is AboitizPower's fourth powered solar plant after the 59 MWp San Carlos Sun Power Inc. Power Plant in Negros Occidental, the 94 MWp Cayanga-Bugallon Solar Power Plant in Pangasinan and the 159 MWp Laoag Solar Power Plant in Pangasinan.
Meanwhile, AP Renewables Inc., ARI's geothermal energy subsidiary, announced that the Bay Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Laguna has secured an engineering, procurement and construction contract with Shandong Electric Power Engineering Consulting Institute Co. Ltd. has signed.
Once completed, it will be the first BESS and geothermal hybrid system in the Philippines.
To date, AboitizPower has projects of over 1,000 megawatts (MW) from various domestic energy sources. 4,600 MW of renewable energy capacity is expected to be created by 2030.
