Noida: Noida comes to Delhi's footsteps in his fight against air pollution. The NCR city has started a pilot project to combat the foul air quality, and has a hint from the capital, in which 15 fog splashes were recently installed along a 500 m section of the Lodhi Road.
The Noida authority has installed a total of 13 fog spray devices on a 700-meter route between the sectors 15 and 16 subway stations on DSC-Straße. The spray devices are installed on poles, each of which is equipped with six nozzles, disperse the fine water lever in order to catch and reduce the pollutants in the air.
The operation in crucial hours, when vehicle traffic is at the peak – from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. – these spray devices are activated at intervals of 10 minutes. The system uses RO-treated water and consumes 30 liters per hour for each pole. While the water is fed by a 5,000-liter tank connected to a RO plant, an automated control panel ensures smooth operation.
“We will monitor the effectiveness of the system for a one-week period. If it is successful, we plan to replicate this RS 50-lakh project on other main roads,” said RP Singh, General Manager (JAL) RP Singh.
He added that the foggy system would help control the pollution to reduce the ambient temperature and effectively catch dust, floor particles and allergens.
“If you are successful, the initiative would mark a shift in conventional contamination control methods using mechanical sweeping machines and anti-Smog weapons. These are not only of fuel-intensive, but also costly.
The authority was looking for around 300 rupees from the center under its center National Clean Air Program (NCAP) for broader environmental initiatives, including improvements in traffic flow and clearing road traffic jams. Noida has already invested RS 4 Crore in buying 10 anti-Smog cannons that are mounted on truck. These have 7,000 liter water tanks and spray capacities of around 30 meters.
