How robust is your camera?

Landscape photographers subject their equipment to some very demanding environments, from rain to snow to freezing temperatures and more. Bad weather tends to present unique landscape conditions, making difficult weather the best time to be outside. But how robust is your camera?

For professional landscape photographer Nigel Danson, taking photos in bad weather is the order of the day. In this video, Danson recounts a day of windy, rainy, and freezing conditions that presented challenges on everything from concentration to the function of camera equipment.

Danson uses his Nikon Z8 along with the Nikon 24-120mm f/4 lens in this freezing rain, where his camera and lens are intermittently covered in ice, making even the manual focus ring difficult to use. The camera remained functional throughout the trip and there were no lasting problems when he got home.

Over the course of this video, Danson shows how challenging the conditions were with freezing rain, cold and wind. He also talks about the importance of being a landscape photographer in poor conditions and offers some tips for handling the camera when faced with such challenges.

I liked this video mostly because I saw that the cameras we use are really rugged and built for harsh conditions. I often think people underestimate how capable and resilient their camera equipment is in bad weather.
