Ports and Freight Minister Melissa Horne announced the opening of the newly upgraded Mornington Fishermans Jetty through an $18 million investment from the Labor Government.

This will strengthen the popular destination among both locals and tourists and features wooden decks, solar lighting and seating made from materials salvaged from the old structure.

In addition, access ladders were added to improve safety and accessibility, allowing the completed jetty to provide access for up to 27 vessels.

Work also continues to rebuild Hampton Pier with an elegant and durable steel piling structure that will feature a wooden deck to preserve the aesthetics of the old pier. The opening is planned for the end of the year.

The addition of a 24 meter long pontoon extends the pier into deeper water and is equipped with a gangway ramp and a floating pontoon.

The upgrades were developed in consultation with stakeholders and the community to ensure the upgraded structures are there for the local community.

Victoria's local ports contribute more than $900 million annually to the local and regional economy through tourism, marine activities and key industries such as commercial fishing, supporting jobs and families for Victorians.

Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne said:

“I am pleased to announce that the new Mornington Fishermans Jetty is open to the local community and tourists.”

“Mornington is a popular tourist destination and home to a vibrant bayside community. Completion of work on this jetty will ensure locals and visitors can continue to enjoy safe access for fishing, boating and recreation.”

Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh said:

“These new buildings will be a great asset for locals and tourists and will attract even more visitors.”
