In a major step to promote sustainable energy and improve security, the Government of Ghana, in collaboration with the Coastal States Stability Mechanism (CSSM), has installed 50 solar street lights in Wenchiki township in Chereponi District.
This initiative is part of a broader US$40 million regional project aimed at strengthening stability in northern Ghana and West African coastal countries, including Benin and Togo
The solar lights provide reliable lighting, contribute to the community's economic growth and improve the overall quality of life for residents.
In addition, the government has handed over a renovated station office building, a furnished and walled district police station, to the police, further increasing security in the region.
The Coastal States Stability Mechanism (CSSM) is a regional initiative of the United States and Germany in collaboration with the Government of Ghana.
The program focuses on strengthening stability in Northern Ghana and West African coastal countries and is in line with Ghana's National Framework for the Prevention and Counter of Violent Extremism and Terrorism.
The CSSM recognizes the importance of community-focused approaches to address key causes of instability and contain the spread of violent extremist organizations (VEOs).
The program is implemented in coordination with the Ministry of National Security, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), local government institutions and community partners.
The installation of solar street lights in Wenchiki marks a significant milestone in the community's development. With reliable lighting, residents can now navigate safely and local businesses can operate more effectively.
The renovated police station will also increase security and create a safer environment for the community.
This project demonstrates the Ghanaian government's commitment to improving the lives of its citizens, particularly in rural communities.
The partnership with CSSM and other international organizations underlines the importance of cooperation in achieving sustainable development and stability.
