BENGALURU: The historic Ulsoor lake is set to be renovated at an estimated budget of Rs 82 crore. The Bengaluru Central City Corporation, under which the water body falls, will have a kalyani (temple pond) with an artistic touch, having ritual points and an elevated viewing platform.
The transformation includes an outdoor theater, shaded walkways and landscaping.
According to an official of VIMOS, an environmental engineering and water treatment systems company that jointly developed the design and detailed project report (DPR) with Prestige Group, under the 15th financing component, Rs 25 crore has been released to the contractor to carry out the work and the gabion wall in Phase 1 is almost completed. So far, Rs 9.5 million has been spent on the wall.
A gravel walkway will be constructed on the upper level of the northern part of the lake, and concrete up to one meter high will be added along the edge of the lake site and a barbecue fence will be installed.
“The Minor Irrigation department has released Rs 40 crore for water management. In addition, the state government has released Rs 20 crore.”
About 98 percent of the funds mentioned in the DPR are already available and will help complete the project at the earliest. By the end of March, development work on the northern part of Usloor Lake will be completed and work on the southern side will begin,” said an engineer from VIMOS.
