The Kardashian clan's homes offer plenty of interior design inspiration – each member takes a unique approach to their home's style (and hires the best of the best to help them along the way).
However, our latest fixation is on Kourtney Kardashian's screening room, which we spotted on Martyn Lawrence Bullard's Instagram page. The space-grey room appears monochromatic, but is beautifully broken up by a striking piece of art inspired by the sky.
“Covered in gray suede, with the largest, deepest and sexiest U-shaped sofa, a fabulous built-in bar and amazing artwork by Doug Aitken, the space exudes modern glamor and true Kourtney style,” Bullard's caption reads . Needless to say, the room gives us some insight into decorating with gray (and grey) – a color that is far from going out of style.
According to experts, adding pops of color is one of the surest ways to make a gray room more visually appealing.
“Gray pairs beautifully with almost any accent color, so don’t hesitate to incorporate vibrant accessories,” says designer Nina Lichtenstein. “Consider adding yellow or teal pillows, cobalt blue planters, or even terracotta ceramics to add warmth to your gray space.” For a nature-inspired feel, add some greenery. Planters filled with bright flowers or foliage provide a lush, organic counterbalance to the gray.”
She continues: “Introduce patterns into outdoor rugs, cushions or cushions to break up the monochromatic grays.” “Stripes, geometric patterns or floral motifs in contrasting colors such as white, navy or mustard can provide a striking contrast that complements the Energizes a room while maintaining an elegant look.”
In addition to introducing a statement piece like Kardashian's artwork, implementing texture is a fantastic way to ensure a gray room remains visually appealing.
“Add dimension to your gray palette by incorporating different textures,” suggests Lichtenstein. “A concrete patio table paired with soft, plush gray cushions provides a tactile contrast. “Pair woven wicker furniture with sleek metal or aluminum chairs in weathered gray for a textural interplay that's both chic and practical.”
Textured carpets are also great for this strategy, as are metallic surfaces. These look great in a media room (like Kardashian's) but also in a traditional living room or family room.
