Final designs for Boronia Station modernization revealed

The Allan Labor government is working to create a modern, accessible and safer Boronia station precinct, publishing final designs ahead of initial work starting in the coming weeks.

Transport Infrastructure Minister Gabrielle Williams today unveiled the designs, which include a striking new station forecourt canopy inspired by the nearby flora of the Dandenong Ranges and an expanded station concourse to improve connections across the rail line.

A new landscaped plaza between the station and Dorset Road will create more green space and seating, while providing a new meeting place for the community and easing pedestrian traffic between the station and Boronia's shopping area.

The station concourse will be widened, with the ticket office moved to the Erica Avenue entrance and the protective services office moved to the Lupton Way entrance – increasing security by improving visibility across the square and station area.

Accessibility will be improved with an improved pick-up and drop-off zone on Lupton Way, better footpaths to both station entrances, as well as more cycle baskets and improved cycle connections.

We have listened to community feedback and commuters will also benefit from new platform canopies, seating and improved lighting, providing comfort and protection from the weather, while additional lighting and CCTV across the district will further improve safety.

The project will see a new pocket park near Boronia Junction Shopping Center equipped with garden beds, trees, seating and a natural play area, creating a welcoming green space for the community.

Initial work will begin in the coming weeks, including upgrading the traffic lights at the Dorset and Chandler road junction to add a dedicated right-turn arrow for motorists.

The upgrade of Boronia station will be completed next year after extensive work has already resulted in the Belgrave Line cantilever gate between Ferntree Gully and Melbourne's CBD and the Lilydale Line level crossing being clear – improving safety and reducing congestion in Melbourne's outer east.

As Transport Infrastructure Minister Gabrielle Williams explained

“We are continuing to modernize the Boronia station precinct to make it easier for people to access public transport and connect to local shops and restaurants.”

“The creation of a safe and modern station will completely transform the heart of Boronia.”

As stated by Bayswater member Jackson Taylor

“This is the biggest investment in Boronia for a generation and, like locals, I am absolutely thrilled to see the publication of the final designs for a better Boronia station precinct, opening next year. From a new landscaped square, a new platform and new station facilities – we won't know the place anymore!”
