The Route 207 project is entering its initial phase – The Eastern Door

Expanding sewer and water systems for 207 residents will be a long time coming, Boyer said.

“I talked to an elder and they said, well, it's about time. We've been hearing this for 30, 40, 50 years,” Boyer said.

“We’re improving the quality of life for people on the 207.”

Boyer said the project will be carried out in collaboration between the MCK's Capital Unit and the Quebec Ministry of Transportation.

The Department of Transportation will take care of the road surface and oversee work done by the Capital Unit for the remainder of the project, Boyer said.

This collaboration with the Quebec government comes after a period of talks between the two parties ended due to Bill 96, Boyer said, and after the Professional Association of Government Engineers (APIGQ) went on strike in May of this year after years of negotiations over its collective agreement, which expired in 2023.

Construction work is scheduled to begin in summer 2027 and continue in 2028. For residents concerned about potential traffic disruptions, including school bus schedules, Boyer said alternative routes will be made available depending on the work being done.
